2005-07-29 [Doc_D]: Yeah, that's a Tai Chi sword Bu, if it was at a pawn shop I'm not too sure about how good it could be, but then again you can find some jems in places like that. You should take it somewhere to get it's quality checked.

2005-07-29 [Doc_D]: I should hope so, Tai Chi sword is a very beautiful art in the way of swordsmenship, but it's also pretty hard, the key thing to remember is that Tai Chi it's self is about the fluid motion of energy, keep that in mind when training with it.

2006-04-11 [Lordterrex]: yes. beautifully simple my friend. one step above the spear, right behind the.. umm... musket? yes. musket. but, the training a good swordsmen under goes really isnt that simple. the weapon lower than the sword, the club, or even the body. yes, the body, has become an icon of pop culture, the ability to fight with your body alone. a sword makes the fighting much easier. but, for it to be easier, it takes training. we just love swords. ^_^
2006-04-12 [Shining light]: indeed. even though the shaolin rank the sword second in their order of best weapoons, underneath the spear. Spears are cool, but can be bad in tight corners.
2006-04-12 [Doc_D]: Simplicity is just a state of mind, for the weapon is only the extension of the warrior. If the warrior has no skill, no instinct and no true drive for the spirit of the thing then the weapon will not be wielded as simplly as one would think.

2006-04-18 [Doc_D]: That would be a lot harder then you think. The way of the katana involves flowing strikes that slash while western style consists of pretty much swinging and cleaving. The deferent swords are made and smithed for deferent forms of use.
2006-04-18 [Lordterrex]: another thing, about kendo. if you do authentic kendo, its insane. firstly, ill say half the stuff you see in movies is bullshit. its incredibly difficult to block a sword attack with a katana, its curved egde causes the other blade to slide on it rather clumsily. to combine both eastern, and western. i think a western sword would be your best bet. something with a straight edge, although fround upon by the common populace, you will find its better. if you wanted to combine both methods.
2006-04-18 [Shining light]: Of course it is, LordT~ movie-fighting is designed first and forwemost to look good. Traditional mnartial arts styles weren't designed to look good, but to be effective. Which is why you'll never ever see traditional Wing Chun on the screen.
